Inaugural

Nieuw Amsterdam III
Year: 1983
Maker:  Tichelaar te Makkum.
Diameter: 24 cm, hight: 3,3 cm
In collection: Jan Oege Zijlstra
Specifications: The Nieuw Amsterdam III was delivered after some delay on June 17,  1983 by the shipyard in Saint Nazaire. The christening of the ship was planned on May 14, 1983.  Therefor, this date is stated on the plate. Due to the delay in delivery, however, this happened later, on July 9, 1983 in Le Havre by Princess Margriet.
On the reverse of the board it says’ To commemorate the Christening by H.R.H. Princess Margriet of the Netherlands. ” There is also the Koninklijke Tichelaar Makkum brand on the reverse of the plate. The date on the front of the board is, as said, May 14, 1983.
At the Ottema-Kimgma Foundation, I found the name of the makers of the plate, Pieter Stam and Henk de Boer. The painter of the plate is Dirk van der Laan. The letters D i r and k are incorporated in his signature. The plate is also part of the collection of the Ceramic Museum Princessehof in Leeuwarden (object number BCT 1215).
Apparently the plates for the Holland America Line were made in that year by Tichelaar in Makkum. Another plate – also from 1983, Silvercruise on SS Rotterdam – is also from Tichelaar from Makkum.
I have only found a picture of a third plate made by Tichelaar Makkum. The pocture below has been taken from the Ottema-Kingma Foundation catalog. That sign has item number BCT 1217 in the Ceramics Museum Princessehof.

Nieuw Statendam

Diameter: 24 cm

Details:
The plate was issued during the maiden trip which started  December 5th, 2018 in Rome and ended in Fort Lauderdale. The board mentions the text ‘Holland America Line Savor the journey’ with the added text under the ship ‘Nieuw Statendam 2018’.
There is probably a similar sign with a more extensive text ‘New Statendam Premier Voyage 05 December 2018’. I only have a photo of the latter board, which is expected to be issued to the ‘Presidents Clubmembers’ on board at the maidentrip.  See below:Nieuw StatendamI received a picture of a special plate (see above) from Michael Isinger from Canada. It concerns the dedication of the “New Statendam” by Oprah Winfrey on February 2, 2019 at Port Everglades in Florida. The plate mentions the text ‘In Commemoration of New Statendam, Official Dedication, February 2, 2019, Ft Lauderdale, Florida’. The plate is so special because only five of it are made, so it can be seen from the back. On that side of the plate you can read ‘Handpainted in the Netherlands’. There are also the brands of ‘Royal Goedewaagen since 1810’. Finally the name of the maker and the size of the series, namely ‘by Antje Ramaker nr. 4/5’. The plate is not on the market; the five boards that exist are divided as follows: one for Oprah Winfrey, one for the ship, one for the head office, one for the president of the Holland America Line and one for the Royal Goedewaagen factory. The plate is very large, more then 40 cm.
